Missouri Bill Should Be Vetoed

Allegedly meant to protect consumers in disputes with builders, the bill would actually create a host of loopholes for consumer to jump through if they wanted to sue. The editorial board of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch is against the bill. For some reader views, look here. Says one--

Senate Bill 1081 is a Rube Goldberg device that would ensnare homeowners in an unreasonable maze of procedures.

This bill would impose a dozen steps and deadlines that a homeowner must follow to seek correction for construction defects or shoddy workmanship. One misstep and the homeowner would lose his or her right to seek relief in court.

Instead of resolving disputes more easily and cheaply, the bill would prove more complex and costly for the homeowner.
