From the St. Louis Post-Dispatch: "Web site auctions can be a thief's best friend," by Heather Ratcliffe--
In another day, a larcenous housecleaner with stolen goods to sell might have tried his luck at a pawnshop or secondhand store. Even if police recognized the loot, they might not have much of a trail to who sold it.Town and Country police said this week they caught a thieving housecleaner who took purloined sports memorabilia to the 21st century's largest secondhand market - eBay.com - where the dynamic is the opposite. The huge eBay Internet operation requires that sellers identify themselves, but only the seller and buyer ever come near the merchandise.
Police said computer-savvy criminals are increasingly turning to cyberspace to unload the fruits of their crimes.
