From USA Today via the Detroit News: "Consumers' gripes about rebates rise," by Sandra Block--
Rebates can save you money on everything from tax software to big-screen TVs, but filing a claim frequently requires more steps than the electric slide.
Making all of the right moves is no guarantee of success. Many consumers complain that rebates take months to arrive, or never show up.
A rebate for $5 is easy to write off. But increasingly, manufacturers and retailers are offering rebates on big-ticket items valued at hundreds of dollars.

I don't like rebates either... I'm in the process of shopping for a new laptop and everywhere I look I see a price with small text under it that says "After Rebate". I know it's a Marketing Strategy but I don't think customers like it because it makes them work and wait to get the price they saw on the sticker. If I was selling something, I'ld either tell the customer the real price up front or if possible give them the rebate immediatly as a discount and have an employee send it in.
