From the Alton Telegraph: "Nesting eagles wow crowds along highways," by Steve Whitworth--
One of the most popular reality shows around right now is set in Alton and features a feathered family living some 50 feet up a tree.
Such TV clans as the Osbournes and the Gottis are losing ratings to a family of American bald eagles that are giving passers-by a rare "all access" look at daily life in their cozy nest along the Berm Highway (Illinois Route 143).
The spectacle has extended the River Bend's annual wintertime engagement by a troupe of bald eagles, one of the region's top tourist attractions. In this summer stock version, a pair of the magnificent raptors is busy rearing two chicks in a nest easily viewed from the shoulders of the highway -- and hundreds of people are catching the show.
