From the St. Louis Post-Dispatch: "Meeting on Hwy. 40 plan offers few answers," by Shane Graber--
The Missouri Department of Transportation hasn't decided on specific details of its $535 million project to rebuild 12 miles of Highway 40 from west of Spoede Road in Frontenac to Sarah Street in St. Louis.
One option is to close the highway to speed up the project, MoDOT project director Lesley Soligner Hoffarth told the crowd of about 150. . . .
MoDOT Director Pete Rahn has said a complete closure of Highway 40 is an option if it means finishing the work sooner. But nearly two out of three St. Louisans who use the highway oppose closing it, a recent MoDOT-sponsored survey of 1,300 area residents said.
